RJS extended and remodelled this rural Essex cottage, improving the internal arrangement while respecting the character of the existing building. The work brought together the new extension, alterations to adjoining rooms, structural openings and upgrades to insulation, windows and services where the original fabric needed improvement.
Materials and finishes were selected to sit comfortably with the cottage rather than compete with it. Careful work at the connections between old and new, followed by plastering, joinery and decoration, created a warmer, more practical home with a clear and natural flow through the living spaces.
